Village Glen Director of Tennis
John Brunner

John Brunner, grew up playing junior tennis in Buffalo, New York. He was a top ten junior player in the USTA Eastern section and played in numerous USTA National tournaments such as the 18 and under Nationals at Kalamazoo, Michigan. He played collegiate tennis at Murray State University helping them to four Ohio Valley Conference team titles, while winning over 100 singles matches. While at Murray State (Division I), John earned a bachelor's degree in Business, majoring in finance. He has served as the assistant coach at the University of Buffalo and Drake University, as well as the Head Tennis Coach at Niagara University.

Most recently, John has been appointed Director of Tennis of the Village Glen where he will concentrate his efforts at promoting tennis excellence and fitness in a fun and friendly social environment. In addition, he will be focused on increasing the breadth and depth of programming drawing on over 25 years of teaching experience as a USPTR certified professional.

Tomís tireless activity and involvement over the years has greatly enriched Buffalo area tennis. His commitment to excellence will continue to benefit students, players and fans of the sport for years to come. Tomís wife, son and daughter are all still actively playing tennis and are involved in the USTA, as well.

Tom LaPenna has been involved in tennis for over thirty years. He has promoted the sport locally by directing the Buffalo MUNY City Championships, Western New York Summer Challenge Tournament Series and formerly the Super Sixteen Menís Round Robin events. Tom has hosted exhibitions by professional players including Roscoe Tanner, Wojak Fibak, Pat Cash, Illie Nastase and Jimmy Arias. Tom brought professional tennis to Western New York through the USTA Professional Circuitís Futures tournament Ė a world class top-ranked professional tennis competition. He was voted in as an inaugural inductee into the Buffalo Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005, alongside such greats as Jimmy Arias and Bobby Banck.
